One of my favorite things to do when searching around for new seasonal color palettes is to look at everyday objects lying around our house. For me, looking at things I see everyday in a new context, with a fresh pair of eyes, usually brings some inspiration – and it doesn’t get more everyday than a plastic “thank you” bag from the corner store filled with pears!
In this case, I was trying to come up with a color palette for a fashion project delivering to stores in January 2019. January deliveries need to be impactful and concise as they compete with winter and holiday inventory that is on sale. I wanted the opposite of the jewel tones and metallics that are often prevalent in stores late in the year, but not colors that feel too spring-like, washed-out or pastel. Looking for a color palette that feels rich but still fresh, I pulled out a warm dark apple green from the pear skin and a burnt rusty-red from some of the bruising around the stem of one of the pears. I’ll focus on these 2 colors and use accents of the lighter colors.
This color palette makes me feel warm, relaxed, hopeful and happy! What about you?
